The Brooke House College Programme of Study for PSHE education identifies the key concepts, skills and attributes that are developed through PSHE education fulfilling the school’s statutory responsibility to safeguard pupils, support their moral, cultural, mental and physical development and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

The PSHE Programme of Study is designed to meet the needs of our students and is regularly updated in order to accommodate these changing needs.

The PSHE/RSE programme of study includes three core themes:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationships
  • Living in the Wider World

The planning for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 encompasses a tailored best-practice curriculum design to develop pupils’ knowledge, skills & understanding based on the three core themes. It also provides safeguarding, personal development & welfare. In addition to this and in keeping with global concerns for the rising temperatures - the third edition of the PSHE Association’s programme of study for personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education has been updated to reflect the rapidly changing world in which our pupils live and learn.

The delivery of the PSHE programme for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 is in age appropriate and gender appropriate small classes. Delivery for Key Stage 5 follows this structure, but also includes more lecture style delivery, often from expert outside providers.

The importance of the curriculum encompasses the whole school approach to help pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage life’s challenges and make the most of life’s opportunities. The knowledge and attributes gained will support their own, and others’, wellbeing and attainment and help young people to become successful and happy adults who make a meaningful contribution to society.
